Self Portrait Project:
For this project we were tasked to create a self-portrait in the medium of our choice. I chose to use Photoshop. I added a variety of images to my self-portrait to show my personality. For example, the Flamingo by Alexander Calder and the Coliseum represent my love of art and architecture. The books represent my enthusiasm for reading and history. The picture of my family symbolizes the big part in my life my family has and is playing. The unfinished brick wall signifies how I’m still figuring out who I am. Finally, the skis and snowboard show my enjoyment of winter sports.
TEACHER Creature Project:

Teacher Creature Reflection: |
For this project we used professional photos of Animas High School teachers and faculty, and placed their pictures on animals or other creatures. Throughout this project I used various tools, such as the refine edge tool, the free transform tool, the eraser tool, and many more. I used the refine edge tool every time I copied part of a different image and put it on my background. This step makes the image edges neater. The hardest part of this project was to select only the part of the image I wanted without any background. However, I persevered throughout this project by attempting different ways to select the part I wanted. I used the eraser tool to erase every part I didn’t want, I used the magic wand tool to select the segment of the image I wanted, and I also utilized the mask and painting tools to pick the selection of the image.
My favorite part of this project was being able to put my teachers’ faces on any creature I wanted. This aspect was amusing, because, in a way, we got to make fun of our teachers for an assigned project. I also really enjoyed this project, because it is a part of the Animas culture, and once a student completes this project, they are a part of the school. During this project I learned that although being a student at Animas means hard work, most of the work is fun. After learning these new skills, I will look more closely at photographic images to see if I can tell if they have been edited in Photoshop. I learned that I am able to make interesting pieces of art in Photoshop and could potentially make money doing it. |
Photoshop Tutorials:
I warped a copy of the tooth to make it a vampire tooth.
I created a new layer and painted over our teacher, Roxy's, hair pink.
I used the patch tool to remove the brackets, the clone stamp to to get the basic color, and the smudge tool.
I used the pen tool to select the colored part of the eye and changed the hue of the eye.
Landscapes: understanding Distance with Scal and Proportion
During this project I learned about the layout of images and scale. Foreground is the part of a picture that is at the bottom and appears closest to the viewer. Middle ground is the part of an image that seems to be a medium distance from the viewer. The background is the part of an image that is higher up in the image and looks to be furthest away from the viewer. Objects in the foreground are larger and have more details. Objects in the middle ground are smaller than in the foreground and have less detail, but you can still make out individual objects. Objects in the background are the smallest, and individual objects cannot be seen. One tool I found very helpful in Photoshop was the eraser tool. I used this tool to remove parts of the background that I did not need. Another tool I found helpful was the refine edge button. This button allowed me to feather the edges of an image before I copy and pasted it. This mini project provided many helpful skills in Photoshop.
Name Project:
I went out and found rocks, sticks, leaves, and other objects and arranged them into letters of my name.
