In this project, we initially learned about discourse and how to have respectful conversations with others when the participants have widely different political opinions. Later, each student chose a political issue that captured his or her attention. After choosing an issue, we wrote an essay about how the issue pertained to our lives, in other words, our connection to the controversy. The next step was researching and writing an essay about our side of the issue. Then a third essay was researched and written from the opposite perspective. The fourth part of this project was creating art pieces depicting the issue. The final part of the project was a reflection focusing on how our political ideologies changed and what we learned about democracy.
