Presentation Of Learning Questions:
Outside of School and Personal Connections: What have you learned this year that will most help you in the future? (Skill, Lesson, or Knowledge)
The knowledge that I need to be able to collaborate to succeed in the real world will be most helpful. This knowledge shows me that I need to work on this skill, so I can use it in the real world.
What project or projects have you done this year that have inspired you to want to learn more?
The Day of the Dead project in Spanish class has inspired to learn more about the culture of Spain. It makes me want to learn more about the Spanish culture as we may go to Spain this summer.
How has your attitude towards learning changed this year?
My attitude towards learning has not changed very much this year. Almost every day for the past four and a half months I have shown up to school early and excited to learn.
How has what you have learned or experienced this year changed the way you see the world?
The truth of was project has shown me that sometimes wars start for no valid reason.
What work from this year would you like to look back on and remember when you are a graduating senior?
I would like to look back and remember the Weasleskin ecology project for two reasons. 1st because it was so much fun going to Weasleskin hiking around and surveying. We missed half a day of school being outside and running around. It was a really fun change for that day. 2nd because I want it as a reminder of what could’ve happened. As I stated in my presentation I could’ve worked with a very amazing student, but didn’t, I want to remember that so I keep striving to succeed in collaboration.
Work and Work Habits What is most important change that you have made as a learner this year?
I have always been creative, and the class that lets me use it the most is always the most fun for me. When I get to express what I’ve learned creatively, I retain that knowledge better. I learn best though using my creativeness, whether it’s building something or creating an art work.
How have you taken an active role in your education this year?
If I didn’t get a satisfactory grade on an assignment, I talked to the teacher and redid the project for a better grade. For example in Biology on our first C.O.W. I got a C. I looked over the notes Tina had written and asked if I could re-submit it. I did and got a perfect grade on it.
What piece of work that you’ve done this year are you proudest of? Why?
I am proudest of the scientific method project that I did. I worked very hard to make the steps into a mobile. I found small trinkets to represent the different steps. Because I put forth so much effort, and made it unique, Tina hung it from the celiing of her classroom. It’s still hanging there.
What skills do you think are most important for succeeding at AHS? Why?
Advocacy, perseverance, creativity, collaboration, and excitement about learning are the most important skills for success at Animas. These are the skills that are required from me most often. I think these skills are also required from others a fair amount too.
If you could go back and redo one piece of work this year, what piece of work would you change, and how would you change it?
I would redo the Weasleskin ecology project. I wouldn’t change an actual piece of work, but I would change with whom I worked. My friends and I did work well together, but like I said earlier I could’ve changed someone else’s experience, probably for the better. I’m assuming that the student I would’ve worked with had a similar experience to the ones I’ve had in Spanish. Those experiences weren’t very enjoyable.
If you were the teacher, what comments would you make about you as a student?
I would say that, Nicole works hard on every assignment, but needs to work on collaboration with people other then her friends.
What might you want next year’s teacher to know about you?
I would want my next year teachers to know that I work hard and almost always try my best, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t struggle with things. Some of the things I battle with, other kids don’t, and some things that are hard for others aren’t hard for me.
What is the most difficult thing you have done this year? Why was it difficult, and how did you deal with that difficulty?
The most difficult thing I have done this year was analyzing poetry. I have analyzed poems before for their content and meaning. I know how to find the rhyme scheme, but I have never previously learned anything about the stress patterns of the syllables of the words.
Reflecting on Yourself and Our Model of Education What would you say to an incoming 10th grader about how to succeed in project based learning?
I would tell the person that you need to be creative and think outside of the box. With project based learning there is a lot of freedom. You need to use that freedom to make the project meaningful.
How have any of the habits of heart and mind helped you be successful as a student or person?
The habit of heart and mind of perseverance has helped me be successful as a student and person. As a student, it keeps me working on assignments, similar to the ones in my introduction, even if I want to give up. As a person it makes me work hard at my passions. Last year I was trying to land a 180 on my snowboard, and wipe out after wipe out I kept try and eventually landed it.
How has a relationship with a faculty member helped you be more successful in school this year?
My relationship with Tina has helped me be more successful in this school year. She’s easy to talk to about really anything, and she keeps good control over her class so we actually get things done.
