VIdeo Project:
Project Reflection:
How is art used in everyday life?
Art is used in many aspects of daily life. For example, the clothes we wear are an artist’s work. Every day we see at least one piece of art. We use art to entertain ourselves, for example with movies. We use YouTube many times to find help or entertainment. Chefs present food artistically on plates to be pleasing to the eye. Art is all round us.
How and why is art used as a vehicle for communication?
Art is a vehicle for communication. An example of how it can be used as a vehicle for communication is in street art, which is graffiti. Images that show a message that are repeated and seen in everyday life reinforce the message, thus giving it more momentum. It is used as a vehicle for communication, because it can simplify an idea or message and then be placed in many different spots.
How does Material Culture influence artistic decisions?
Material Culture does influence artistic decisions. For example, if a particular shoe brand, such as Vans is very popular, then an artist might decide to create art on that brand of shoe. An example could be Andy Warhol and his Campbell’s soup cans.
What problem-solving skills are employed in making works of art?
There are many problem-solving skills employed in the making of art. One example is independent research, if you wanted to do a complex effect in Photoshop but didn’t know how, you could find a YouTube video of how to achieve said effect.
Why do Artists Produce Preliminary Plans? (sketches, brainstorms, storyboards, etc?)
Artists produce preliminary plans, such as sketches and storyboards, to achieve a basic idea of what their work would look like. The preliminary work could help troubleshoot potential problems before beginning the actual art piece. They also use it to figure out what materials or activities they need.

Project Description:
During this project we were assigned to film and edit a movie that had documentary elements. Because I thought this would be too much for one person to handle, I worked with my friends Victoria and Eythan even though we were in different class periods. We started this project by discussing what genera? genre? and subject we wanted our video to have. We chose a comedy zombie movie. We then worked on the script, storyboard, and editing during class and the filming over the weekend. I found the rubric very helpful in deciding what camera angle/content our video needed. I also found that Roxy letting me grab my partners out their classes so we could work was very helpful.

Cartoon Project:
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Although the project was supposed to be creating a political cartoon in response to the “documentary” Blackfish, I couldn’t conceive of an idea for a political cartoon even though I related to the topic of killer whales in captivity. Although I did feel passionate about the issue, I had the opposite opinion of most of my peers. Due to this fact, I had a lack of example political cartoons from which to draw ideas while my peers had several given examples. Because of this problem, I was allowed to create an art piece with the subject of my choice.
A political cartoon is a great example of how information can be shared artistically. For example, this political cartoon that shows three students at desks, the desks are labeled China, India, and USA, the Chinese and Indian students are reading science and math textbooks while the American has his book closed and is listening to music and chewing gum. This cartoon depicts idea that Americans have poor study habits while the Chinese and Indians have good ones. The visual aids add power to the message being communicated in the art piece in order to influence the opinion of the reader. With creating art, the artist can consider the audience. While a person viewing art has the option to try and figure out the message the artist is portraying. The artist has to decide how to visually represent his/her ideas. An art viewer can also attempt to realize what emotions the artist could be depicting. |
PRE HISTORIC ART HISTORY DRAWINGS:
Project Description:
This project started by watching the movie Man Created Dog about how man’s relationship with wolves evolved into domesticated dogs. We also learned about pre-historic art, such as cave art where humans transitioned from recognition to representation. The reason I drew a mushroom was because humans started out as hunters and gatherers. I started to wonder if they gathered mushrooms and the idea stuck. To improve my drawing skills, I used the nature drawing packets Roxy made available. This packet included techniques on shading and on drawing animals. I used the shading tips to make my mushroom appear more three dimensional and realistic. I think the image trace technique made my drawings look more refined. It also made the drawings appear more complicated. I could see myself using the skills I learned here in the future. I could use Illustrator to create or refine my creations in other classes. Now that I know how to trace an image in Illustrator, I can take any artwork and refine the lines be tracing them. I enjoyed this project a lot, because we got to study ancient history, and history was always one of my favorite subjects. I also thought the history of the dog was very interesting, because it showed how some breeds came to be.
