The topic I want to explore for the 20% Project is the conservation of marine habitats. My general audience is everyone. The ocean affects everyone's life whether directly or not. The ocean produces more than half of the oxygen on Earth and takes in the carbon dioxide, 15% of the protein we eat comes from the ocean, the ocean makes clouds, stabilizes temperatures, and helps regulate weather. My specific audience is people who recreate in the ocean (such as divers and beach goers), anyone who cares about marine habitats, and fishermen. These groups should care, because they will be the most affected by my topic. Student centered learning is where the learning is based on student’s interests and for their benefit. Audience centered learning is learning about topics that apply to an audience and often is centered around making a change. So far I have decided on the issue I want to study, the final product of my 20% project, and gathered all the materials I need. The final product will be a documentary that raises awareness on the destruction of marine habitats and the need to protect them. Nothing has gone wrong, yet. At first, I was challenged with finding an idea. I was again challenged with finding all the materials that I will need. My next step is to begin researching the causes of destruction of marine habitats.
